Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic is a full-service veterinary hospital serving the Westshore area since 1981. John Gayfer and John Basterfield started working together in 1980 at the original location near Royal Roads University. Very soon, they realized that ownership was the direction they wanted to go, and so, together they purchased Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic in 1981. In 1988, Margaret Cairns joined the practice as an associate veterinarian and it wasn’t long before she became the third valuable partner.
The three partners worked long days and many hours serving our wonderful clients. They formed many bonds and long-lasting friendships over the course of 40+ years. In November 2021 we said a fond farewell to Margaret Cairns and in November of 2022 we bid adieu to John Gayfer -- both have now retired and started their next chapters! Well-earned retirement! We are grateful for the many pets and families that they were able to care for over 40 years' service.
John Basterfield along with Clinton Doering are our current managing veterinarians. We are looking forward to the growing our team with additional new and talented veterinarians to help serve our growing community and lovely clients!
